A fire at the main transformer of the 220 kVA substation in Sector 72 of Gurugram triggers a major power outage across parts of the city on Friday evening. According to officials cited by multiple outlets, the electricity grid failure shuts power to several substations and leaves households and businesses facing disruptions during the blackout.
The outage also affects Rapid Metro operations. A DMRC spokesperson says power supply failure from the Sector 72 (Sec 72) substation of HVPNL, which feeds Rapid Metro, Gurugram, and the Gurugram section of the Yellow Line, results in train services being unavailable for a little over an hour, from 7:50 pm to 8:33 pm. During this period, Yellow Line services are regulated through a standby substation and continue to run normally.
Rapid Metro services resume once HVPNL restores power through the Sector 72 substation. One outlet reports that the fire leads to seven substations losing power, while another describes the Rapid Metro disruption as lasting nearly an hour.
