Apple’s new Texture and Grain controls in the iPhone Camera app—part of Photographic Styles—are now described as exclusive to photos captured on specific newer devices, rather than broadly available to all iPhones that support the latest Photographic Styles.
Macworld and MacRumors report that Apple’s initial launch materials suggested the controls would work on iPhone models that support the latest generation of Photographic Styles after updating to iOS 27. However, both outlets say Apple later changed the wording in a footnote on its iPhone 18 Pro newsroom release and related compatibility text. The revised note specifies the controls are available only for photos captured on iPhone 18 Pro models, and using certain cameras on the iPhone Duo. Cult of Mac reaches the same conclusion, stating the controls are locked to iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Duo.
The outlets also note that Apple’s broader Photographic Styles support still appears to extend to other iPhone models, but the Texture and Grain controls follow a separate, narrower compatibility list tied to the camera hardware used to capture the photo. Apple has not publicly explained why the wording changed, though Macworld reports that Apple’s background statement emphasizes the “captured” requirement and indicates tools may still be available for editing older photos if taken on the newer phones.
