Multiple reports say Google’s newer, AI-forward Search experience malfunctions for certain queries, including the single word “disregard.” After Google began rolling out an update that emphasizes AI summaries and moves traditional results lower on the page, some users found that searching for “disregard” no longer produces an immediately useful definition at the top. Instead, Google’s AI Overview responds as if the word were a command or instruction, with messages such as “Understood” and an outcome indicating the message was disregarded. In some cases, the AI response area contains extensive blank whitespace that pushes or obscures additional results.
Reporters note that scrolling down reveals standard content such as a Merriam-Webster definition, suggesting the underlying search still works but the AI layer behaves incorrectly. Similar behavior is described for other command-like or instruction-oriented words (for example, “ignore,” “stop,” and “remember”), while using a non-AI search engine provides the expected results. One outlet reports that Google may have partially addressed the issue, but additional search results still show references to the problem.
