The activity at Adarsh India Montessori School in Biria Majhola, Khatima, involved a student being blindfolded and shown red liquid around the eyes to simulate a severe injury linked to excessive smartphone use.
The student reportedly told classmates that doctors removed both eyes because of prolonged mobile phone use, which led to panic among peers. A video of the exercise later circulated on social media, drawing attention from local authorities and education officials.
Outlets report that the school’s stated intent is to warn children about the consequences of excessive screen time. Following concerns about student welfare and the appropriateness of frightening methods, the local education department orders an inquiry and directs the school to avoid programmes that could adversely affect children in future. Authorities say any further action depends on the findings from the investigation.
