TikTok’s U.S. business is joining Lantern, a cross-platform initiative focused on child safety, and it pledges $2 million to the U.S. National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC). The move adds TikTok to a growing group of technology companies that work together to address risks involving children online.
Lantern is designed to help participating platforms share information about warning signs related to the sexual exploitation of children as suspected content or users move between services. TechCrunch reports that TikTok’s U.S. arm joins after forming a U.S. based joint venture about eight months earlier. The Next Web identifies the member as the TikTok U.S. Domestic Services (USDS) Joint Venture, created in January to operate TikTok in the United States, with ByteDance retaining a 19.9% stake.
Across outlets, the emphasis is on industry-wide coordination through Lantern and the announced financial support for NCMEC, while the reporting differences mainly reflect outlet framing and naming details about TikTok’s U.S. entity.
