Darren Aronofsky is set to be honored by the Locarno Film Festival with its Honorary Leopard (also described as the festival’s honorary Pardo d’Onore). The Swiss festival, focused on independent cinema, will hold the ceremony on August 14 at the Piazza Grande, its outdoor venue for a seated audience of about 8,000. Locarno’s dates for the year run from August 5 to 15. Aronofsky will receive the award during the Aug. 14 event and will also take part in onstage programming. Reports say he will present two of his films—“The Fountain” (2006) and “Mother!” (2017)—at the festival. Coverage from multiple outlets highlights Aronofsky’s career span and the thematic focus of his films, including work that explores faith, desire, and obsession. The festival is expected to mark the occasion with public appearances and screenings tied to the honored works, as part of its broader schedule in late summer.
