Micron President and CEO Sanjay Mehrotra says the global memory chip shortage is likely to persist beyond 2026, even as the company expands production capacity. Speaking with Bloomberg, Mehrotra discusses Micron’s buildout of DRAM manufacturing in the United States, describing it as a major investment meant to increase supply of advanced memory technology.

Mehrotra also links memory demand to growing needs across multiple industries, including automotive, aerospace, defense, industrial applications, and networking. He frames DRAM as a critical component supporting these sectors as they adopt more memory-intensive systems.

The company’s remarks come as AI-related demand continues to contribute to pressure on memory supply, according to the interviews. While Micron’s expansion is intended to address constraints, Mehrotra indicates that timing for easing shortages will extend past 2026. The overall message is that sustained demand—driven by AI and broad industrial needs—outpaces near-term supply improvements, prompting further capacity additions such as Micron’s U.S. DRAM expansion.
