Todd Boehly’s consortium receives backing from US and Gulf power and investment figures as it seeks to bid for international assets of Lukoil, the Russian oil group. The effort is positioned to compete for assets that are being brought to market following earlier transaction steps tied to Russia-linked operations.

The Financial Times reports that Boehly, a US-based financier and owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers, is securing support from US and Gulf “power brokers” to strengthen its bid. The outlet also says the consortium’s aim is to challenge another deal linked to Carlyle, which reached an agreement in January to buy Lukoil’s international business.

While the sources agree on the parties involved and the competitive nature of the process, they differ in emphasis. One focuses on the role of Boehly and the personal/consortium dynamics of securing backing, while the other frames the move as broader government and regional billionaire support for the bid.
