A media aide to Atiku Abubakar calls on Nigeria’s National Assembly to initiate impeachment proceedings against President Bola Tinubu. Paul Ibe, a media aide to Atiku’s African Democratic Congress (ADC), says Tinubu extended his time in Europe beyond what the constitution allows and did so without properly notifying the National Assembly.
Ibe argues that Section 151 of the constitution requires a written declaration to the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House when the president proceeds on vacation, and he contends that Tinubu’s “working vacation” is not provided for in the constitution. He also says Tinubu has stayed beyond 21 days, citing the current day as the 23rd, while the president is not expected back until the weekend.
The reports note that Tinubu travels from London to Paris and met French President Emmanuel Macron. One outlet adds that, in response to the criticism, a presidential aide, Daniel Bwala, says Tinubu can govern Nigeria from anywhere in the world.
