Discord is rolling out a new global age-assurance system that automatically estimates a user’s age group and applies related restrictions. The change starts today in every country except Australia and the UK, which are excluded from the initial rollout.
Under the system, Discord uses “multiple account signals” to assign users to an estimated age group. If Discord cannot reliably estimate a user’s age, it requires age verification instead. Both outlets describe the rollout as a change from an earlier approach Discord paused roughly seven months ago after user backlash.
