Presidential candidate Donald Duke says Nigeria’s opposition parties are repeating the same failures that cost them the presidency in 2023 and are not consolidating ahead of the 2027 general election. He argues that the lack of unity remains a major concern, and that opposition forces could change the political outcome if they contested as a single bloc.
Duke points to the 2023 presidential race, saying the combined votes secured by Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso could have been enough to defeat Bola Tinubu had the three major opposition figures backed one candidate. Speaking in an interview on Channels Television’s Political Paradigm and discussing his move from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Duke says the opposition has not fully learned from the previous election.
Across the reports, the focus is on his call for opposition parties to agree on a common direction for the country before settling leadership. Duke also says that while he remains interested in the presidency, his priority is helping build a team to address Nigeria’s problems rather than seeking office alone.
