Maruti Suzuki has commissioned its first green hydrogen electrolyser plant at its Manesar manufacturing facility in Haryana. The 300 kW pilot uses electricity generated from solar power at the plant to produce hydrogen that can be stored for later use in manufacturing operations.
The company says the project is aimed at testing how hydrogen produced using renewable power can support factory needs. Outlets also report that Maruti Suzuki plans to evaluate pilot results before potentially expanding green hydrogen technology to other manufacturing sites in Haryana and Gujarat. The Manesar solar approach is described as making use of electricity that could otherwise be unused during holiday periods.
Maruti Suzuki frames the hydrogen initiative as part of a broader clean-energy and emissions-reduction effort. Reported targets include cutting the carbon footprint of manufacturing from about 615,000 tonnes to about 266,000 tonnes by FY 2030–31. Different outlets emphasize aspects of the wider strategy, including investments in solar and renewable electricity, battery storage, and biogas, alongside the green hydrogen pilot’s role in alignment with India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission.
