The Supreme Court hears arguments in the Cauvery water dispute between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. Tamil Nadu says there is a 20 TMC (thousand million cubic feet) deficit in the sharing of Cauvery water, and asks the court to consider the gap when passing further directions.
Both governments tell the court that the issue remains highly sensitive. Karnataka disputes the deficit claim and says several districts face drought-like conditions, urging the court to factor drought impacts into any assessment or future allocations.
The bench, headed by Justice Vikram Nath, allows Karnataka a week to file its response. The court schedules the next hearing for October 12, where it is expected to continue evaluating submissions from both sides and any related orders or compliance issues.
