Singapore’s major banks, insurers and asset managers pledge to train more than 80,000 local employees in artificial intelligence skills, aiming to reduce potential disruption from automation in white-collar roles. The initiative is part of a broader push to help the financial sector adapt to new technologies.

Channel NewsAsia and the South China Morning Post say 23 financial institutions commit to train their entire Singapore workforce by 2028, including programmes recognised by the Institute of Banking and Finance. The South China Morning Post adds that Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong cites progress, saying more than half of these firms’ staff have already completed programmes recognised by an industry association.

Bloomberg frames the pledge as a workforce cushion measure for the country, while CNA and the South China Morning Post emphasise the scale of the commitment and the structure of training through recognised programmes and job transformation efforts.
