Samsung launches fingerprint-based authentication for UPI payments in India through Samsung Wallet on eligible Galaxy devices. With the update, users can authorize qualifying transactions up to Rs 10,000 using on-device biometric verification instead of entering a UPI PIN.
Samsung says the feature is designed to improve privacy and reduce exposure of PINs when payments are made in public. It also suggests that using biometric authentication may lower the chance of failed transactions caused by incorrect or mistyped PIN entries. Both outlets describe the authentication as running on-device, with sensitive information stored securely.
Beyond UPI, Samsung Wallet already supports other functions, including additional digital payment options and features for organizing services such as travel-related bookings and tickets. Across coverage, the main differences are emphasis: one outlet focuses on the secure storage and privacy benefits, while the other highlights the potential reduction in payment failures from incorrect PIN entry and lists other wallet capabilities.
