Ugandan health authorities confirm further Ebola infections linked to the ongoing outbreak in neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). On Saturday, Uganda reports three new Ebola cases associated with the DRC. Subsequent reporting on Monday adds two more cases, bringing Uganda’s total confirmed infections to seven. The latest cases include health workers: one report says two health workers at a private hospital in Kampala are infected. Earlier cases described by outlets include a driver, a health worker and a Congolese woman. Uganda says it is strengthening outbreak control measures, including infection prevention and control, to protect public health. Separately, regional risk monitoring is highlighted by the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), which warns that 10 countries across the region are at risk of being affected. Several reports note the outbreak is tied to the Bundibugyo strain and that suspected cases in Congo continue to rise, with DRC figures described as surpassing 900 suspected cases. The World Health Organization is also referenced as having declared a public health emergency related to the latest outbreak.
