Embark Studios is running a limited-time PvE mode test in its extraction shooter Arc Raiders, scheduled for October 13–20. During the event, players can use a toggle at matchmaking to enter either the standard game mode, where players can harm each other, or a PvE-focused version where human players can’t hurt one another, while threats from machines remain.

Embark says it is responding to a “large and growing” part of its community that comes for co-op play and the game’s ARC feature rather than hunting other players. GameSpot adds that the test follows earlier PvE map-condition trials on Chinese beta servers and will allow solo, duo, and trio parties to share the same PvE lobbies because there is no player-versus-player threat.

The outlets also report limits to what’s included: several major map conditions are expected to remain available only in standard matchmaking. Embark further emphasizes the test is not a promise of a permanent PvE mode, noting the outcome is uncertain, though the company is “seriously considering” it.
