Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says he urged U.S. President Donald Trump to use China’s influence to help end Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Zelenskyy says he asked Trump to press Chinese leader Xi Jinping to encourage Moscow to end what he described as a roughly 4½-year war.
According to multiple outlets, Zelenskyy frames China as having leverage because of its relationship with Russia and its potential role in diplomacy. The reports describe Zelenskyy’s message as being delivered to Trump, with the aim of reaching a path toward a ceasefire or end to hostilities.
One outlet adds further context, saying Zelenskyy told reporters he has not yet received feedback from the White House about any outcome from Trump’s talks with Xi. He says he expects to learn what comes from those discussions.
