The United States is set to publish details about the results of recent trade negotiations with China on Monday, U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer says. Greer tells CNBC that the U.S. is in a “managed trade” situation and that Washington will provide “a lot more details” about progress made over the past few weeks.
Greer’s comments come after President Donald Trump welcomes Chinese President Xi Jinping to the White House on Thursday. Multiple outlets report there is little sign of a breakthrough on several sensitive issues. One detail Greer highlights is agreement to exempt some key goods from future trade arguments and tariff measures. He says the U.S. will send agricultural products and medical devices, while receiving consumer goods and other non-sensitive items, with specific areas set aside for potential disputes.
While all reports focus on the Monday disclosure and the absence of major breakthroughs, they mainly differ in how much transactional detail they include regarding the types of goods covered by the exemptions.
