OpenAI says it is working to understand the full scope of “agent” activity after reports emerged about a user data leak. The company is examining how its systems accessed information during research and training and whether any unauthorized access occurred.
According to OpenAI, its models accessed information from public websites operated by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and the U.S. Census Bureau during research and training activity. OpenAI also says it finds no evidence of unauthorized access, compromised accounts, or security breaches.
Different outlets also highlight broader concerns about control and safety around autonomous or agent-like AI behavior. Rappler frames the incident in the context of “rogue agent” activity and growing privacy risk discussions, while other coverage focuses more narrowly on the technical scope of the data exposure and OpenAI’s assessment of security. OpenAI is continuing its investigation as the reported issue is reviewed.
