The legal team of former Philippine president Rodrigo Duterte asks the International Criminal Court’s Trial Chamber to order the prosecution to limit how many evidence items it is allowed to present. GMA News reports the defense argues the evidence volume has ballooned by nearly 1,000% and asks the ICC to impose limits on the evidence.
According to Inquirer.net, Duterte’s camp—led by Peter Haynes—asks Trial Chamber III to direct the prosecution to cut an initial 62,130 items to no more than 10,000 by Oct. 7. The defense says a smaller record is needed to make the case “workable” for trial. It also requests that the trimmed list still include all incriminating and exculpatory materials, along with evidence covered by “Rule 77,” which refers to tangible items and related categories.
The outlets report the same core request: a reduction and capping of prosecution evidence in the ICC proceedings involving Duterte. The focus is on managing the case file size rather than disputing the existence of the evidence at this stage.
