India’s passenger vehicle retail sales are expected to grow about 15–16% in September, according to a Yes Securities research report, supported by steady consumer demand and refreshed model line-ups. Dealers expect year-on-year growth across most vehicle categories as the festive season approaches, though sentiment is affected in some regions by uneven rainfall.
The outlets agree that the broader auto retail market remains positive, except for tractors. Passenger vehicles benefit from updated models that sustain showroom enquiries and dealer sales, and some manufacturers are introducing small price increases (around 0.3–0.4%) to offset higher raw material costs. The report also points to interest in newly launched CNG models with automated manual transmissions, which could broaden appeal among urban private buyers.
Both sources also note segment differences. Urban two-wheeler demand is stronger than rural, with rural growth slower amid erratic monsoon conditions and calendar effects such as Adhik Maas. For commercial vehicles, enquiries remain steady despite typical September softness, while tractor retail is expected to be flat or grow only in low single digits due to rainfall deficits weakening rural confidence.
