Japan’s Asian Games organizers say they are not satisfied with ticket sales after large areas of empty seats are visible at venues during the event. At the 30,000-capacity Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium in Nagoya, the main stadium appears to be around one-quarter full for marquee track events such as the 100-meter sprints.
Officials say ticket demand is uneven across sports and the schedule. The organizers state that for eight sports, including football, fewer than 60% of tickets have been sold, and a similar share remains unsold for the closing ceremony in about eight days. While they report that more than 90% of tickets were sold for the opening ceremony a week earlier, they acknowledge continuing attendance issues, including no-shows. The games organizing committee says it will keep working to sell additional tickets and encourage those who have secured seats to attend, aiming to improve stadium attendance.
