According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the remaining five returnees in the group are funded by a private Nigerian citizen. The government links the operation to ongoing xenophobic and Afrophobic attacks affecting Africans and other foreign nationals in South Africa. The latest batch is described as part of an ongoing consular evacuation effort that has expanded since June 10, 2026. The RCCG’s donation is said to be earmarked for one-way tickets for up to 500 stranded Nigerians, even though only 100 are included in this specific flight.
