Director Hur Jin-ho’s political crime thriller “The Assassin(s)” leads South Korea’s box office over the Chuseok holiday weekend, according to Korean Film Council (KOFIC) data compiled by KOBIS. The film opens to rapid audience momentum and remains at the top as the holiday period runs from Sept. 25–27, in a broader surge that several outlets describe as lifting overall attendance.

Korea Times reports “The Assassin(s)” holds the No. 1 position for four consecutive days after a Sept. 23 release, drawing 432,341 admissions on Saturday and surpassing 1.3 million admissions by that stage. It also tops advance ticket sales for eight straight days before and around the premiere. The main challenger is “Tazza: The Song of Beelzebub,” described as “Tazza 4,” which opened the same day and attracts 663,140 viewers through Saturday, placing second.

Outlets also emphasize different angles: Variety focuses on the weekend and the holiday-frame box office lift, while Korea Times highlights day-by-day admissions totals, advance sales streaks, and the films’ release timing and standings.
