Home Minister Amit Shah flags off India’s first LNG (liquefied natural gas) train, according to multiple outlets. The launch is presented as part of the railways’ shift in fuel use, with officials linking it to lower diesel dependence and broader efforts to modernize traction.
Both reports note that Railways’ diesel consumption is already declining. One outlet cites that railways used about 293 crore litres of diesel in 2015–16 and says the government targets reducing diesel use to zero by 2030.
