Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) says it has seized a US underwater drone in the Strait of Hormuz and is working to retrieve information from it. In its account, the IRGC Navy identifies the asset as a Remus 600 and says the “advanced submersible” is now with its specialists.
The US rejects the claim. US Central Command spokesperson Captain Tim Hawkins says the United States maintains “positive control of all” its operational drone assets, and describes the IRGC statement as “clearly desperate.” The US says the drone had malfunctioned before any Iranian claim was made and that there is no basis for Iran’s capture assertion.
The reports frame the latest denial as part of an ongoing pattern of competing statements about drone incidents in the region, with Iran previously announcing a different US drone capture and the US disputing related claims.
