The chairman of Guzamala Local Government Area in Borno State, Hon. Umar Lawan Sheriff, is accused of firing a double-barrelled gun and threatening to kill a man during a confrontation at the residence of a former state governor. Reports say the incident follows an argument involving Sheriff and a man identified as Sanusi Othman.
According to accounts attributed to Zagazola Makama and eyewitnesses, Sheriff allegedly made remarks implying Othman was linked to drugs. Othman then reportedly sent a WhatsApp message warning against associating his name with the claims. The reports further say Sheriff later returned to the house, pulled out a firearm, fired into the air, and pointed the weapon at Othman, who managed to escape. A video circulating on social media is said to show a spent shotgun cartridge recovered from the scene. The sources also indicate attempts were made to resolve the matter privately rather than through security agencies. Both outlets note the allegations have raised concerns, while authorities have not yet publicly confirmed or formally investigated the incident.
