Bank unions defer a proposed three-day nationwide strike after reaching an understanding with the Indian Banks’ Association (IBA), according to the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU). The deferral applies to the planned agitation that had been scheduled for Monday, with outlets reporting the strike was intended to run across three days and could have affected banking services nationwide.

The UFBU says the parties agree to set up a high-level committee to deliberate on union demands, including declaring remaining Saturdays as bank holidays for employees. The committee is expected to examine alternatives, discuss with stakeholders and work toward a solution that considers customers’ interests, while taking up residual issues from earlier meetings.

Outlets also report that the discussions include the Performance Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for certain officers. Some coverage notes that bargaining and government dialogue have already addressed most concerns, with the PLI-related demand reportedly put in abeyance earlier, while the strike notice and talks occur amid ongoing pension- and work-week-related demands. The UFBU had previously staged a one-day strike and had warned of further industrial action if issues remained unresolved.
