Nigeria’s federal government says it has no record of local contractors involved in the $460 million Abuja CCTV project, after a civil society group raised concerns about disclosure. SERAP, the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, urges the Federal Government to immediately publish the identities of local contractors and other parties that received payments under the National Public Security Communication System project in Abuja. SERAP also asks for payment details, citing that Nigerians do not know the names of local contractors linked to the project. In response, the finance ministry, as reported by multiple outlets, states that it has no record of local contractors connected to the payments for the CCTV initiative. The issue has been framed around transparency and accountability, with SERAP asking the relevant finance authorities to provide information including the names of local contractors, subcontractors, consultants, vendors and other entities that benefited from payments.
