Schneider Electric announces what it calls the world’s first fully software-defined medium-voltage (MV) switchgear, designed to speed up deployment of power systems for AI-ready data centers. The company says its Software-Defined MV architecture delivers up to 3× faster ordering and manufacturing, up to 2× faster commissioning, and supports zero-downtime upgrades.
Schneider Electric presents the offering as part of its broader SF₆-free medium-voltage technology push, extending this approach to 38 kV through the RM AirSeT™ 38 Software Defined product. Both outlets describe the architecture as using a simplified footprint, with less wiring and fewer components, and cite piloting in a live environment. Financial Post adds that Schneider Electric pilots the system with Equinix in a live colocation data center.
Across the two sources, the emphasis is on operational acceleration and upgrade continuity for data centers, while differing slightly on scope and naming details. Neither outlet provides independent verification or performance data beyond the company’s stated metrics and pilot description.
