The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) urges traders and residents in Kano State to handle naira notes carefully. The bank warns that careless handling increases the cost of replacing dirty or damaged currency and can shorten the lifespan of notes.
The call is made during a sensitisation campaign launched at major markets across Kano. According to outlets, CBN officials say markets are targeted because of their central role in cash transactions and the high volume of cash handled by traders. One report notes the campaign begins at Galadima Market and is set to cover additional markets, including Sabon Gari, Abattoir, Yankaba, Tarauni, Yan Lemo, and Dawanau International Grains Market.
While all sources focus on the same guidance—careful handling to reduce replacement costs and preserve currency quality—their emphasis varies. The reports frame the message in terms of cost savings, extending currency lifespan, and encouraging traders to treat the naira with respect.
