Seyi Makinde says APM can “reset” Nigeria within four years if elected 2027

Oyo State Governor and Allied Peoples Movement (APM) presidential candidate, Seyi Makinde, has declared that Nigeria can be “reset” within four years if he is elected president in 2027.Speaking at the APM North-Central Town Hall Meeting in Lafia, Nasarawa State, on Monday, Makinde outlined his agenda, promising a new security architecture, reforms in education, and an economy driven by data, science, and logic. He said the reset would also extend to Nigeria’s socio-political environment.“The reset agenda can be concluded in four years. We can give Nigeria a new security architecture, a new path for education, rebuild the economy, and reshape our socio-political environment,” Makinde stated. He pledged to run a transitional government of national unity from May 29, 2027, aimed at sustainable development.Makinde criticised the Federal Government’s handling of insecurity, particularly in the North-Central region, questioning the planning and budgetary provisions for newly established army divisions. He also challenged whether increased allocations to state governments had translated into improved living conditions, arguing that hunger and hardship persist.On Oyo State’s finances, Makinde noted that his administration had reduced dependence on federal allocation from over 80% in 2019 to 65% in 2022, but said the removal of fuel subsidy had pushed the state back to nearly 80% dependence. He described the policy as “voodoo economics.”Makinde insisted that tackling insecurity and rebuilding the economy required proper planning, adequate funding, and a clear vision, adding that the APM was ready to deliver a reset that works for all Nigerians.
