Filipino tennis player Alex Eala is in a run of mixed results across multiple WTA tournaments. At Wimbledon, she earns a breakthrough win in her grass-court campaign, beating Mexico’s Renata Zarazua 6-1, 6-2 to reach the second round. She is then set to play Wimbledon defending champion Iga Swiatek in the third round on grass, a rematch-style matchup as Eala looks to extend her time at the All England Club.

Outside Wimbledon, Eala’s schedule includes Berlin, where she faces No. 2 Elena Rybakina in the Round of 16. In the lead-up to the grass and clay stretch, Eala also plays in the Italian Open at Foro Italico. After opening against Poland’s Magdalena Frech, she comes back from a dropped second set to defeat Frech 6-0, 3-6, 6-4, then later ends her tournament run in doubles after a straight-sets loss to Townsend and Siniakova.

Earlier clay-court action also includes a first-round exit at Strasbourg, where she falls to Ukrainian qualifier Oleksandra Oliynykova 6-3, 5-7, 3-6, and a first-round loss at Bad Homburg to Elise Mertens 6-3, 6-3.
