Iran’s foreign minister says talks with Qatari mediators are intended to pass Iran’s ideas to the United States and to allow Washington’s response to be delivered through Doha. Abbas Araqchi says he is speaking in New York and that Iran expects the final U.S. reply via Qatar after the latest exchange of proposals.
Araqchi also says Iran informs the U.S. and the international community of the conditions set by Iran’s Supreme Leader for reopening the Strait of Hormuz, though he does not provide those conditions in the remarks reported by the outlets. He adds that if the United States says it is seeking an agreement or a peaceful solution, Iran has already presented one. One outlet reports contacts have become more serious following Iran’s most recent proposal and says a final U.S. response is expected on Tuesday.
