Infosys says it is planning to shift roughly a quarter to one-third of its workforce into specialist roles focused on artificial intelligence. The company is discussing the plan with partners, advisers and analysts during its annual Americas confluence in Washington, DC, according to one report. With employee counts cited as 3,28,062 as of June 30, 2026—and estimates based on that figure—this would translate to about 82,000 to 109,000 employees.
The reported move is tied to the company’s broader AI push and existing efforts to create specialized AI job tracks, including “builders” and “masters.” Infosys has also trained large numbers of employees to be “AI-ready,” including reported training of more than 2,75,000 staff in AI and generative AI by June 2025. One outlet adds that industry pressure is also coming from changing billing and pricing models that rely less on traditional headcount deployment, increasing demand for AI-centered capabilities.
Both outlets describe intensified recruiting across top Indian institutes and US campuses, with Infosys competing for similar technical talent pools as AI labs. Differences are mainly in the emphasis: one focuses on the internal rebalancing of roles, while the other highlights pricing pressure and the shift away from headcount-driven models.
