BSE Ltd is set to enter the NSE’s benchmark Nifty 50 index, replacing IT firm Wipro Ltd as part of the NSE’s semi-annual index rebalancing. The change takes effect on September 30, 2026. The move is expected to affect passive investment flows tracking the index, since index funds typically buy or sell shares when constituents change.

BSE qualifies based on its six-month average free-float market capitalisation, which reached Rs 1,40,879 crore. This exceeds the eligibility requirement of at least 1.5 times the six-month average free-float market capitalisation of the smallest eligible constituent. Wipro’s corresponding figure is cited as Rs 55,930 crore, which is why it is removed from the benchmark.

Outlets also highlight the likely direction and size of trading around the effective date. One estimate points to inflows into BSE and outflows from Wipro tied to index-related buying and selling. There is also mention that BSE’s share performance has been stronger in 2026, while Wipro has declined sharply. Separately, both reports note that other companies, including TVS Motor and Divi’s Laboratories, are assessed but do not meet the threshold, while changes beyond Nifty 50 may follow in other index tiers.
