A Bahraini court sentences nine defendants to life in prison after finding them guilty of cooperating with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). State media reports that the court convicts the group of carrying out “hostile and terrorist acts” in cooperation with the IRGC, framing the case as involving both operational support and intelligence-related activities.
According to Bahraini prosecutors and state reporting, some defendants gather information about sensitive or strategic sites, including by photographing locations, while others allegedly help arrange financial transfers connected to IRGC activities. The reporting also says prosecutors describe the financial support as including transfers from Iran, with at least some conducted through cryptocurrency transactions.
In addition to the life sentences, two other defendants receive three-year prison terms. Authorities describe the underlying conduct as terrorism and espionage-related collaboration.
The convictions are reported against a backdrop of an intensified crackdown by Bahraini authorities on people accused of having ties to Tehran.
