Soldiers rescue 41 travellers from bandits in Zamfara State after the travellers’ commercial vehicle breaks down on a highway in Tsafe Local Government Area. The passengers are travelling from Senegal to Kano when the vehicle develops a mechanical fault, leaving them stranded.
According to reports, bandits take advantage of the situation and attempt to move the occupants into nearby areas. Troops of Sector 2, Operation Fansan Yamma, act on actionable intelligence and mobilise to the scene. The soldiers engage the armed group, which forces the bandits to abandon the victims and flee into nearby farmlands.
The accounts say all 41 travellers are recovered unharmed. The reports add that the victims include men, women, and children, and that the rescued passengers receive support while arrangements are made to reunite them with their families and relevant transit authorities. Troops also maintain a presence in the area to protect travellers and pursue the suspects.
