Apple removed ICEBlock and similar apps from the App Store in October 2025, and in a July 2026 letter to U.S. Representative Jamie Raskin, the company says the decision was prompted by “concerns” about the safety of immigration agents. CNN reports Apple tied the removals to safety issues and points to an earlier fatal shooting at a Dallas ICE office that left two detainees dead.
Multiple outlets report the removal followed increased government attention. In July 2025, the U.S. Department of Justice publicly threatened the ICEBlock developer. Raskin then launched an investigation into whether the DOJ or other government actions played a role in removal from both Apple’s and Google’s app stores.
Apple also explains that ICEBlock violated Apple’s App Review Guidelines 1.1.1, which bars apps providing location information about law enforcement officers in ways that could be used to harm officers. While Apple frames the removal as a safety and policy compliance measure, at least one report highlights a view that Apple is reluctant to acknowledge government pressure as a driver.
