Amnesty International condemns the arrest and detention of five men in Maiduguri, Borno State, over their alleged wearing of T-shirts with the inscription “Tinubu Must Go.” Vanguard and Daily Post both report that the men were held by the Borno State Police Command, following the matter being circulated online.
Daily Post Nigeria names the five detainees as Baba Aji Gremami, Mustapha Abba Yemen, Abacha Mohammed Ali, Adam Umar Gubio and Abdulhamid Mohammed. Both outlets attribute the condemnation to Amnesty and describe it as responding to the arrests linked to the T-shirt message. Vanguard, however, notes that as of the time of its reporting the Amnesty statement circulating on social media could not be independently verified.
The reports are broadly aligned on the location, number of men, and the alleged cause for detention, but differ in the level of detail they provide on identities and on whether the Amnesty communication was independently confirmed.
