Mexico’s National Guard is training an adopted Chihuahua, named Comando, as a small recruit equipped with protective glasses, a custom tactical vest and a camera mounted on his head. The 13-month-old dog, about 21 cm tall and weighing around 7 kg, is shown training in Mexico City by climbing stairs and jumping over obstacles.
According to multiple outlets, Comando is based on the Chihuahua region and was adopted about six months ago, after living with an elderly couple who could no longer care for him. The National Guard says the training includes search-and-rescue tasks and also aims to help uniformed officers connect more easily with the public. ABC Australia describes Comando’s role as including “mascot” duties alongside search-and-rescue work, while NDTV similarly focuses on his training and his viral popularity on social media. Other coverage highlights the gear used during training but does not conflict with the overall description of his duties.
