Qatar PM calls Netanyahu a “war criminal” as Doha vows to keep mediating

The prime minister accuses his Israeli counterpart of politically attacking Qatar to deflect attention from Israel's actions.

Qatar's prime minister calls Netanyahu 'war criminal', says Doha will continue diplomacy efforts in region Qatar's prime minister accused his Israeli counterpart, Benjamin Netanyahu, of being a "war criminal", and stressed that Doha would continue its mediation efforts despite escalating tensions in the region.  During an interview with Piers Morgan, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani - who is also Qatar's foreign minister - was asked whether he considered Netanyahu a war criminal.  Sheikh Mohammad responded by saying: "Of course. What’s been committed in Gaza is war crimes, and whoever is responsible for this is a war criminal." "Hospitals have been targeted, schools have been targeted. Whatever the justifications and the arguments, nothing is justifying this," he added. He also brought up Israel's attack on Qatar in early September of last year, when it targeted Hamas officials while Doha was engaged in mediation efforts. "We were attacked by Israel while we were mediating," he said. "Netanyahu has crossed the line like he has crossed other lines before that."  Despite escalating regional tensions, Sheikh Mohammed indicated Qatar's readiness in ongoing diplomacy and mediation efforts. "We are trying to do our best to give the best advice to the US government on how to reach a solution, as well as to the Iranians," he said.
