A 70-year-old man is arrested and more than 150 homes are evacuated in Worle, Somerset, after “suspicious substances and items” are found at a property. The reports say the discovery leads to a police cordon and ongoing checks at the address.

Avon and Somerset Police state that officers identify suspicious items at a home on Becket Road in Worle. An Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit tests and destroys some of the items, and an in-depth search continues. Across outlets, the evacuation scale is described as 150-plus homes, with one report specifying 153 properties.

There are differences in detail and emphasis. Metro and others report the man is arrested on suspicion of fraud by false representation, while all sources agree he remains in police custody. Metro also adds that a 100-metre cordon is put in place overnight and that North Somerset Council sets up a rest centre at The Campus in Weston for people unable to return home. Police describe the incident as isolated and continue searches.
