Tony Elumelu, through Heirs Energies Limited, buys an additional six million shares in Seplat Energy Plc for £53.2 million. The transaction is reported in a notification filed with the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX). Seplat says the shares are purchased at £8.87 each and that the deal is executed in London on September 30, 2026.
After the purchase, Heirs Energies’ direct shareholding rises to 27,943,867 shares. Sources also report that entities controlled by Elumelu—Heirs Energies Limited and Heirs Holdings Limited—hold a combined 126.4 million shares, corresponding to 21.07% voting interest out of Seplat’s 599,944,561 issued shares. Premium Times adds that this combined holding is described in its report as representing 4.67% of shares, while Nigerian Eye and Vanguard focus on the voting-interest figure.
The outlets also link the latest acquisition to Seplat’s planned leadership change. Seplat previously announces that Udoma Udo Udoma retires December 31, 2026, with Elumelu set to become chairman from January 1, 2027. Both the Nigerian Exchange and UK market-abuse disclosure rules are cited as governing how the transaction is reported.
