Apple is reportedly developing a smart home security camera that does not record or provide video footage. In discussions about the company’s next smart home push, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman says the device is designed to offer features that do not include video capture.
According to Gurman’s account, the camera would function more like an environmental sensor that uses AI to analyze what is happening at home. MacRumors reports that it would be able to “analyz[e] your environment” using AI rather than generate footage. The Verge adds that the device would reportedly provide users with text descriptions of events instead of video.
While outlets broadly agree on the “no video recording” concept, they emphasize different aspects of how the product would work: MacRumors highlights AI-based environmental analysis, while The Verge focuses on text-based event summaries as the user-facing output. All reporting attributes the details to Gurman’s comments on Bloomberg’s Power On podcast.
