A 28-year-old fisherman in Hammond, Oregon, is recovering after a large boulder becomes dislodged and pins him while he is fishing alone along the coast. Joseph (“Joe”) Little says he is trapped underneath the boulder as the tide rises near his location.

According to reports, Little uses Siri on his phone to get help. One account says he tells Siri, “call 911,” prompting an emergency call while he describes his situation. CBS News and the Daily Mail both report that he credits the voice assistant and the timing as factors in his survival as rescue efforts are underway.

The outlets largely agree on the core sequence of events: the boulder crushes/pins him, he is alone, the tide rises, and Siri is used to contact emergency services. Differences are mainly in wording and emphasis, with one outlet focusing more directly on the “miracle survival” framing while the other centers on the role of Siri and the surrounding circumstances near rising water.
