The central government formally identifies 28 strategic locations in the Union Territory of Ladakh on Survey of India maps, including points described as friction areas along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). The move is intended to support accurate recognition of these sites and to improve public awareness about their locations.

The Hindu reports that the Centre’s action is part of the official mapping of the UT of Ladakh and includes LAC friction points. Business Line notes that some of the listed sites, such as Gogra and Hot Spring, were friction points during the 2020 standoff between Indian and Chinese forces, a period that involved deployments and patrolling in high-altitude areas. Swarajya likewise highlights the inclusion of key LAC friction points and other strategic features such as high-altitude passes.

While outlets agree on the number of sites and their presence on Survey of India maps, they differ in emphasis—some focus on public awareness and official documentation, while others foreground specific historical friction points and patrolling relevance.
