Amazon says it will spend more than $1 billion over the next five years in US communities that host its data centres. In an announcement, Matt Garman, chief executive of Amazon Web Services, describes the effort as “Built Together,” with funding aimed at local projects tied to education, work-force development and local energy needs.

The outlets describe the programme as targeting three main areas: education, job training, and energy affordability for towns near Amazon’s expanding AI infrastructure. Amazon also pairs the funding pledge with additional commitments related to utilities and disclosure, including efforts around power and water and a greater focus on transparency for affected communities. The emphasis across coverage is on community-facing investments that accompany data-centre development, rather than on changes to the company’s broader cloud or AI strategy.

While the sources focus on similar programme goals and the same overall dollar figure and timeframe, they differ mainly in how they frame the local priorities—some underline training and education, while others highlight energy affordability and the accompanying promises on power, water and transparency.
