Priyanka Kakkar, a former national spokesperson of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), quits the party and joins the Congress. Speaking at a press conference in Delhi, she says she could no longer “defend the indefensible” and announced her move alongside other individuals, including Shyam Sunder Sharma and Rajat Rakesh Tandon, in the presence of senior Congress leaders.

Kakkar says her decision is driven by changes in AAP’s conduct over time. She alleges the party that once projected a certain standard of living later adopted practices she disputes, including references to travel by private choppers. She also criticizes internal party arrangements and questions how some leaders were placed in other states. She adds that she wants a Delhi she describes as green, clean, progressive and safe, and argues Congress is best positioned to achieve it.

On political leadership, Kakkar praises Rahul Gandhi, calling him an “authentic” leader and saying he does not react in ways she associates with political theatrics. She also raises concerns about voting rights and electoral institutions after referencing Gandhi’s comments on Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, saying these issues should be highlighted publicly.
